Oh that's right, I have a blog.

Argh, I've been writing so much of my script I've neglected my blog. Oops. I hate that cause now I can't remember what I've done for the past 10 days....
Seen a lot of films lately cause award season is upon us and I'm lucky enough to benefit from borrowing friends' dvd's. So in no particular order I've seen Juno (Awesome), Dan in Real Life (Shmaltzy), Elizabeth (a shame), Keane (interesting in realtion to my film), Blow out (old campy de palma), Jesse James... oh that reminds me.
Andrew Dominik you are a cock! I have looked up to you and inspired me ever since I saw Chopper. That film, for me, showed me what an Australia film could be - not the bullshit mick malloy comedies. Then comes Jesse James, laungishing in editing hell for a year or more, bad press, bad vibes, stories of fighting with LEGENDARY DP Roger Deakins. Throughout that I thought it can't be him, they're being hard on the Aussie guy. How wrong was I. He was a complete prick to me at the Q&A after the screening. It wasn't in a oh I'm too busy or oh I'm a big hotshot like say Brett Ratner. He's just a prick naturally. Anyway, enough negativity. I hope you enjoy the failure of your film Mr. Dominik, cause you sure deserve it.

I went to a wedding on the weekend, it's amazing what weather can do. The cool air coupled with an outdoor wedding made it all a little somber... I got very drunk so it was fun for me haha. Thanksgiving this weekend we're off to Palm Springs, should be fun. Hopefully hopfully I'll finish my script!
Hmm, what picture of fun can I put here... ok Juno trailer for your pleasure.

Fog Town.....

Ok so I haven't been writing every day, but I'm getting to it! Was a slow week due to a nuclear war commencement. Luckily the war was ended at the 11th hour of debates on Sat afternoon though. I went at check out the location that I want to shoot my film CRISTAL in. It was in Fontana which is an hour east of Los Angeles. It's a whole other world out there. People talk differently, act differently have a very small town feel, living only an hour away from one of the world's biggest cities. So the house is perfect, not sure how difficult it would be shooting around the family still living there and only having two bedrooms. For a while now I was thinking of if only I could find a house to shoot in, now it's 'oh if only I could find the money'. I wish so badly I could get this film made...but it's not looking good. I've been writing madly... we'll see.. stay tuned.
Here is a picture of my bbq lunch at the local gas station, luckily I'm still alive after eating it.

Thurs and Fri night were a wash. Saturday night we went to the Swell Season concert at the Wiltern. Such a great venue. Glenn Hansard is brilliant. A lot of aristists could take a page out of his book, he short sweet stories between each song were amazing. Here is my favorite song of the night, it wasn't from the film ONCE, which everyone should see, but a cover of a song I've never heard by Michelle Shocked.

Sunday I caught a free screening of DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY.

Now the film was fanstastic. Solid Solid filmmaking, some great great visuals, all performances were pitch perfect. But I did not feel emotionally invested. The Q&A with Oscar winning writer Ronald Hardwood was fantastic. He talked about keeping the car scene (you'll see) until the end. I think perhaps not knowing him before his accident we, as an audience, we'rent able to become invested. Something I think will be the complete opposite in Cristal. Had some lovely Baja action, some great wall action then more writing on Sunday afternoon. Thus turning out to be a fine weekend.

The weekend that was..

It's funny, I didn't get home till 2am last night, but I'm not tired. I guess by 2pm today. So the writers strike started today, maybe that'll give me some time to write myself. Joe gave me a Nov 10 deadline, which is this weekend. Yeah not looking good hahah. So Fri night was low key, hung at home. Saturday... um... maybe all that vodka last night wasn't a good idea. Wow it feels like weeks ago. Oh yeah, had a great breakfast/lunch at Dupars, man why have I not been going there more often? The lemonade could possibly be the best I've ever tasted. Helped my friend Ryan and his wife Maria move into their new house. Very nice little place in the valley, perfect perfect size. Sat night we went to this AWESOME morrocan restaurant called Marrakech. Belly dancers and amazing food, what more could you ask for?

The stopped by Travis' film festival and Abram's birthday, was a good night all round. Sunday got up nice an early thanks to daylight savings. Rented bikes and rode down to Venice and back, even being cold and overcast it was a fun time. Nice to have some excerise, it's been a while and the 20lbs I put on prove that hahaha. Caught a matinee of Lars and the Real Girl. Was ok, I fell asleep for a bit, I just couldn't get into the story. Went home, had a um, nap. Then went to see Tone Loc and Peaches at the Avalon. It's funny how concerts like this really make me appreciate being in L.A. I mean the show was ok, but seeing Tone loc and peaches for free on a Sunday night? Never would happen in Australia. Here's a photo of Mike and I looking all cool, well wannabe cool, and a clip of tone and peach and a pic with Tone and I hahaha

Back baby

Wow, a year. A fucking year has passed. Where did that go? It's funny, as I write this I'm a little solemn, I'm feeling dead in my job. Very little to look forward to at the moment. BUT, on looking back over the past year it's been good I guess. Some very very memorably experiences, some amazing music gigs, some great movies, some amazing trips to some amazing places. I think back on all that and think damn I'm lucky. A friend looked at my Australian pictures recently and said "I am so envious of that guy". Wow, I look at other people so much and envy them, never thought anyone did that for me. So I'll try to post regularly, I'll try to also do some flashbacks to the past year. So to get started. Wed night, Oct 31. I didn't do anything Halloweenish on the actual night but I did go to a wonderful romantic dinner at a new sushi restaurant called Takani downtown. Amazing venue. 21st floor of a bldg downtown. NICE. Pic below. Also below is a photo I took on Thursday morning around the corner from my house. I did take out a little of the color but this was in broad day light at 9am, taken through my windshield. I wish I had more time and a better camera to have really explored it.
